Join us as we recreate one of the great holiday trains of the 1950’s hauled by the magnificent Great Western engine 6024 “King Edward I” on a return journey along the beautiful Devon coast and onto the preserved Paignton & Dartmouth Railway with time available to discover the many charms of the ‘English Riviera’. We are diesel hauled to Taunton where “King Edward I” will be waiting with a full head of steam and it is soon after departure that the first challenge faces our engine as she powers our heavy train over Whiteball summit as we leave Somerset and enter glorious Devon. Our journey continues through the beautiful city of Exeter and past the stunning Exe & Teign estuary with its pretty fishing boats, we steam along the exciting sea wall as we race through tunnels and cuttings of red rock and along beaches and coves with the sea keeping company with the train.
At the “English Riviera” resort of Paignton we join the steeply graded preserved steam line as we travel through the woodland estate once owned by Agatha Christie and into the waterside station at Kingswear, where it is a short journey on the foot ferry to the historic and beautiful town of Dartmouth where there are plenty of shops and cafes to explore - why not while away your afternoon enjoying an ice-cream - topped with clotted cream, or perhaps a leisurely cruise on the River Dart.
Our return will be in the late afternoon and “King Edward I” will haul us all the way back to Taunton including the testing climb of Torre bank and Whiteball that should make the sound of our engine working hard reverberate from the surrounding hills.

A full English Breakfast & 4 course Dinner will be silver served at your reserved seat by our liveried stewards. An extensive wine list is available and guests in Pullman class will also be served a complimentary ½ bottle of wine with Dinner.
